This may come as a surprise to you, but taking a photo of yourself with lemurs on your shoulders isn’t easy. It does, however, make for a fantastic edition of Bad Photo Friday. I’ll admit I was a little freaked out initially, as the whole thing seemed like a bad idea, from smearing banana all over my hands to giving my camera to the boy who took us on a “tour” of “Lemur Island,” an island off the coast of Madagascar called Nosy Komba. But I’m kind of lemur crazy, so I did it anyway. You’ll notice there are no pictures of David doing this. Oh no. Also the bulk of these bad photos were taken by said boy who took my camera to take photos after smearing my hands with banana and giving the lemur (which he called "monkey") an invitation to jump on up.

Bad Photo Friday: Visa Photos
I was just combing back through our photos for some criminally bad ones, when I came across this set of outtakes from the “photo session” we had to take our visa photos for the various countries that required one for our entry visas. Though these were taken before we set out on our trip, since they were for our trip, I thought I’d share. I think they’re hilarious.
First rule of thumb, stop talking.

I said stop talking.

It also helps if you’re looking at the camera.

Now smile…but not too much!

Ok, maybe a bit more than that.

David eventually got one good enough. And several countries have let me in, so that’s proof enough.

Bad Photo Friday: David Edition
Mostly, David takes a really good photo.
As long as his eyes are open.
And the sun’s not in his eyes. (Sure, let’s say the sun was in his eyes, rather than him being annoyed with me for taking his photo unawares.)
I mean, sometimes it looks like he might be on something.
Or that he’s laughing at his own private joke.
But the kid has gravitas. Even when there’s an extra stripe-shirted body coming out of his chin. (Sorry, this one is that good. Had to share it again!)

Bad Photo Friday: Animal Style
Yes, that is a pony, painted to look like a zebra. In Vietnam. I have no answer for it either. But it's a bad idea.
Last week we crowned the king and queen of photo bombs, but if there is an official mascot of the photo bomb, surely it’s the sea lion.
Although the llama is a runner-up, for sure.
This guy? Well, now I’m not sure who’s bombing who in this one.

Bad Photo Friday: Photo Bomb Edition
I’m the queen of photo bombs on this trip—especially in food pics.

But this guy was pretty good.

But this guy was pretty good.
And this guy was pretty quick.
But our friend and Galapagos guide Enrique is hands down the King of the photo bomb. Although to be fair, he was trying not to be in the picture. Te amamos Enrique!

Bad Photo Friday: Self-Timer Edition
Wait, is it flashing?
Maybe I should check it?
No, it must not be working, let me check.
Did it take it?
Did it take it?
I think it’s done.

Bad Photo Friday: Dark Edition
This is really a composite of many similar photos:

Lenscap photos happen to the best of us. Also, that photo is copyrighted, so don’t even think about trying to pass it off as your own.
Have a good weekend!

Bad Photo Friday: Personal Care Edition
No one looks good with a cork attached to their nose.
David had his hair “styled” in Singapore. It’s a new look for him. You can tell by his expression that he loooooves it.

Bad Photo Friday: Surprise Photo! Edition
Surprise! It’s Photo Friday! I’m really proud of this week’s edition. This is quite the collection if I do say so myself. It’s not always the case that you take the best photos when you’re not posing for the camera. Here is some proof.

Bad Photo Friday
This week’s bad photo is brought to you by the “over it” smile.
Just. Take. The photo. Already. Also making an appearance in this photo is the Look of Much Constipation Concentration. Also we are sweaty and gross after walking all the way across the Harbor Bridge. The look on Lana’s face may also be influenced by our decision to walk back rather than take a ferry across the water to Circular Quay.
Lana’s not sure what influenced this one, except for maybe alcohol or a seizure. You’ll notice, however, that David’s expression remains exactly the same.

Bad Photo Friday
No, not bad hair day. Bad photo day.
It’s never a good thing to let the photographer fall behind you. Thanks David. Posterity thanks you very much.

Bad Photo Friday
We have enough bad photos to post one every day for, oh, forever. But we thought we'd share a real humdinger each week, as a counterpoint to the steady diet of gorgeous landscapes and attractive travelers posing with smiling faces. This is how you know we're not faking this trip like the moon landing. No one would ever fake these photos.
