Twelve years on…

20120907_115431_G12_IMG_1809
We don’t have a lot of money at the moment for expensive gifts (traditional is apparently silk/linen, modern is pearls) for our 12th anniversary. This year I made something for David—a slideshow.  Normally he’s in charge of all things photo/slideshow oriented, but I wanted to try my hand at a little visual love letter. This one is a little bit goofy, a little bit sappy, and hopefully conveys some of the fun we had this year.
Happy 12th Anniversary!
There are a lot of people whose marriage wouldn't survive this kind of togetherness, but I believe that ours is stronger for it. This 12th year has often been challenging, but David embraced all the challenges with all his good nature and more joy than I'd seen in many years. I could have never dreamed what our life would end up being on our wedding day. And I certainly couldn’t be more delighted in the surprise it continues to be. Happy Anniversary honey!

Bad Photo Friday: David Edition

Oh
Mostly, David takes a really good photo.
David
As long as his eyes are open.

And the sun’s not in his eyes. (Sure, let’s say the sun was in his eyes, rather than him being annoyed with me for taking his photo unawares.)

I mean, sometimes it looks like he might be on something.

Or that he’s laughing at his own private joke.

But the kid has gravitas. Even when there’s an extra stripe-shirted body coming out of his chin. (Sorry, this one is that good. Had to share it again!)

Career Search

Old David
This is exactly what David used to look like when he was working. In fact, when he’s working on blogging or picture development, it’s still what he looks like. But as we travel along he’s trying out some different jobs to see how they fit, in case he wants to strike out in a new direction when we get home.

This first business is ready made—the sign is right, and he does love tea.

Is professional rock skipper a thing? Because I think he could nail the audition.

We thought long and hard about chocolatier. It’s still in the running.

He looks really cute in a chef’s hat.

Of course, he also looks really good as an adventurer/archeology professor.

Lake Titcaca floating island reed farmer was a bit of a stretch, considering he couldn’t even stand inside the houses (and that’s a camera, not a beer baby).
20121203_142903_310HS_IMG_2866
And while he did ok at ice climbing, it was difficult to find a pair of crampons to fit his feet. Although maybe you can write those off on your taxes?
20130202_145519_310HS_IMG_4581
Sailor?
20130213_152119_310HS_IMG_5006
Hindu priest?
20130303_102409_310HS_IMG_5612
Rice farmer?
20130303_105129_310HS_IMG_5624
Rice sorter?
20130305_111321_310HS_IMG_5704
Moto-taxi driver?

I have to hand it to him—he’s giving everything a shot.

This guy seems to think he’d make an ok coconut street vendor.
20130328_192932_310HS_IMG_6537
However, he really does seem at home in the kitchen.

Me, I think this face says it all. Thai chef or fire daredevil.
But we’re still searching. If you have any suggestions for what David should do when he grows up, leave ‘em in the comments!
